Irama Nusantara is a preservation and archiving of data and information on Indonesian popular music. This is based on the awareness that it is important for the public to recognize and understand modern Indonesian music as part of the nation's identity. But in reality, Indonesian people have difficulty in getting references to popular Indonesian songs, especially old songs which are the origins of Indonesian popular music.

Therefore, Irama Nusantara started an effort to collect and archive Indonesian popular music from the early 20th century considering that this era was the forerunner of the popular Indonesian music industry that we now know. After the era of Indonesian independence, national-scale recording companies such as Irama, Lokananta, Mesra, Remaco and so on emerged. Since then the Indonesian music industry has grown very rapidly until it is recognized at the international level. But as time goes by and the lack of archival culture in Indonesia, tangible evidence and documentation of the richness of Indonesian music has become a rarity for later generations.

The effort that Irama Nusantara has taken as a first step is digital archiving. Currently the Irama Nusantara site is still in the development stage, where there are still many features that have not been implemented. There is still a lot of content in the queue that will enter our library every day.

Apart from these archiving efforts, Irama Nusantara has a dream to develop other efforts that will be carried out in the future.
